Nutrition and the Endocannabinoid System

Nutrition is important in achieving optimal health and energy. Proper nutrition is also essential to keep your endocannabinoid system functioning efficiently.

The Standard American Diet (SAD) is high in refined carbohydrates, sugar, and omega-6 fatty acids. Meat from stressed out animals, factory-farmed in feedlots without proper nutrition or exercise and fed omega-6-rich grains with antibiotics and hormones for rapid growth, contribute to weight gain, stress, poor glucose metabolism, and a host of other conditions that lead to obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

Improving your omega-6 to omega-3 ratio by increasing your intake of omega-3-rich foods like cold water fish, pastured eggs, hemp seeds, and flax seeds, and ridding your diet of nutrient-poor meats and processed, packaged, and fast foods will help your endocannabinoid system function more efficiently to keep your body in balance.

Inflammatory foods with sugar, artificial sweeteners, additives, and high in omega-6 should be avoided and replaced with a predominantly plant-based diet with a variety of vegetables and fruits, ancient grains, and  pastured, humanely-raised animal protein.

A nutritious diet, an optimal body weight, and adequate hydration will have you feeling better with less pain, less anxiety, and increased energy.
