Cannabis has been found to affect several symptoms caused by neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s, ALS, multiple sclerosis, and movement disorders.
Alzheimer’s
THC interferes with the deposition of amyloid plaques, the hallmark of the disease. It is thought that cannabis has the potential to slow down the progression of this debilitating disease. Studies show that even small amounts of THC can improve appetite, mood, and sleep while decreasing agitation and restlessness.
Multiple Sclerosis
CBD and THC, both muscle relaxants, can be effective in relieving painful muscle spasms.
Parkinson’s and Huntington’s Disease
Tremors associated with movement disorders often respond to THC. When inhaled, the duration of action is 2-3 hours, long enough for patients to eat, shave, and accomplish other activities that are difficult to do with a tremor.
